Thursday 7th August, the St Ives Harbour Hotel – the date and venue for a harmonious meeting of England and Germany, as Bride Andrea (representing Germany) met her English match in Groom Adam.

When we arrived to meet Andrea in her room with her Mum and bridesmaid Jule, it’s fair to say she was feeling a bit stressed. After a few reassuring words from her friendly photographers she started to feel slightly calmer, and her bridal portrait shots show both her beauty and a vulnerability that was almost child-like (a quality we were to see throughout the day).

The look of minor panic returned as she walked down the aisle with her father, but evaporated in joy as she and Adam exchanged their vows after a moving reading by her brother Michael, read first in German and then in English (thank goodness!).

Despite a high tide and what felt like the busiest day of the year on Porthminster Beach we rearranged our plans after some celebratory drinks (and a special Lifeboat Day display) to fit in a brief trip to the beach. Adam was armed with a child’s bucket and spade – a present from Andrea’s teacher colleagues – and they duly made the sandcastle, although it probably won’t be winning any competitions!

After leaving the Bride & Groom to enjoy their wedding breakfast we returned for an early evening jaunt to The Island, and were then joined by most of the wedding party on Porthmeor Beach. Andrea’s inner child returned for a barefoot race across the sand with her brother before heading back to the hotel for more evening celebrations.

It was a joy for us to be part of this particularly friendly European Union. The weddings are coming thick and fast at the moment so we are a few days later than usual with our first selection of images from the day, but we hope Andrea & Adam enjoy them. Next up is Monday’s wedding at Gunwalloe of Jenny & David – coming soon! With love, Dawn & David x
