Last Sunday we had the pleasure of joining Lynne & Edd for their wedding in St Ives. And what a wedding it was. Lynne and her chief wedding planner, mum Brenda, had not left a stone unturned in their meticulous attention to every detail.
This was a wedding with an international flavour, with Edd’s family travelling from his native home in China, and others travelling from as far away as Hong Kong and Australia to join the celebrations.
We knew when we first met Lynne & Edd a year or so ago that they would create a truly individual wedding, based on their own desires and wishes for the day rather than what tradition dictates. And so they did! From the tea and biscuits served to guests as they arrived to the speeches on the lawn after the ceremony. From the stunning makeover of the venue by Inspire Hire, to the beautiful arch adorned with flowers by Wedding Flowers in Cornwall. From the Groom walking his mother down the aisle, to the hand-made suits worn by the Groom and Best Men. From the Samurai sword used to cut the wedding cake, to the ‘pub quiz’ after the barbecue buffet wedding breakfast. It was all amazing!
But the most touching and emotional part of the day came immediately after the wedding ceremony (with beautiful vows written by the bride and groom) when we witnessed our first Chinese Tea Ceremony. This is based on an ancient Chinese tradition dating back over 1200 years, and has the bride and groom serving Chinese tea to their parents, then other close members of the family to thank them for their love and support and show their respect. It’s fair to say there were a few tears.
Although the St Ives weather was mostly grey and damp, it didn’t disrupt the plans too much, and we did manage an early evening trip to the beach when the sun briefly broke through. Then it was back for one last treat – Lynne & Edd performing a Lindy Hop to ‘Bring me sunshine’ – the old Morecambe & Wise theme tune for those of us old enough to remember.
Lynne & Edd are still enjoying their break in St Ives, and we hope they return again soon. We wish them every happiness together, and that the love so evident on the wedding day lasts a lifetime. With love, Dawn & David xx
