Last Tuesday we were excited to help Jacqueline & Mark celebrate 20 years of marriage by renewing their vows in an intimate and touching ceremony at St Nicholas Chapel, perched atop The Island in St Ives.
After a soggy day spoiled plans for a blessing on The Island for Carys & George’s wedding in June, we were delighted to see the sun shining for this gathering of just eleven of Jacqui & Mark’s closest family and friends who had travelled all the way from Glasgow for the celebration. As the group gathered to await Jacqueline’s arrival we were entertained by Shiki – an amazingly talented violinist from Japan who is busking her way around the world and had been recruited on the streets of St Ives the previous day by Mark’s friends. We wonder if they briefed her to start her set with the theme tune from Beauty & The Beast! Take a look at her in action by searching online for ‘Shiki Violinist’.
The ceremony was officiated not by a celebrant, but by one of Jacqui & Mark’s closest friends, who lives right opposite them and has been a friend for over thirty years. Just like a wedding, we had tears during the reading (by Jacqui’s sister) and during the re-dedication of their vows and wedding rings. In another lovely touch, each of the couples present lit the Unity Candle to show their commitment to one another and to Jacqui & Mark.
After a glass or two of champagne to toast the happy couple, some impromptu dancing to Shiki’s tunes and an unplanned confetti shower, the rest of the party headed off to The Sloop Inn while we took Jacqui & Mark for a short stroll down to Porthgwidden Beach and around the Harbour to Smeaton’s Pier. Their memory of their wedding photos from 20 years ago was of formal and overly-staged images, so our brief was to keep things very informal and relaxed. We hope we succeeded.
It was then time to deliver them safely back to their friends in The Sloop for a drink before heading on to an evening meal in town. We hope they enjoyed the rest of their stay in St Ives and wish them health and happiness for the next 20 years of their marriage. With love, Dawn & David xx
